THEY LIVE! Has any movie ever had such a resoundingly successful afterlife as the cult classic film THEY LIVE!? John Carpenter's masterpiece about Reaganism and the 80's focus on materialism and consumerism got a celebratory screening on April 21st 2018 at the Vista Theater in Los Angeles. This midnight movie screening welcomed hundreds of hungry fans who had the pleasure of "putting on their glasses" and joining John Nada (Rowdy Roddy Piper) in resisting their evil alien overlords.
THEY LIVE is a masterpiece of cult cheese, filled with trademark John Carpenter humor, style, subversive observation, and the longest fight scene in cimena history. It is also filled with imagery and scenes that are now so iconic, we can see its influence everywhere...including in my CONSUME series.
I was honored to not only be a guest a the 30th Anniversary screening, but I created a limited edition, 6 color print for the event as well. I got to sign the prints as fans picked them up.
Commissioned by Garageland.net, these prints are now on sale on my website, in a limited edition run of 20, soon!
Additionally here are some more photos from that night of the event.
I brought my custom 3ft Barbie, They Live alien doll to attend with me. She had a great time.
The table in which I signed all the prints was right outside of the theater and I got to talk to a lot of amazing fans of the film and of my art. It was a humbling experience I will forever be grateful for.
